Le premier album de Monomono ; " Give The Beggar A Chance , The Lightning Power Of Awareness " est édité au Nigeria sur le label His Master's Voice Records HNLX 5104 [ NG ] en 1972 . Il est également publié en Zambie sur le label EMI Records HNLX 5104 [ ZM ] et au Pérou sur le label Odeon Records EDL-02.01.99 [ PE ] la même année .

Les racines de Monomono remontent au groupe de Fela Kuti . Monomono était un groupe formé à Lagos , au Nigéria , en 1971 par Joni Haastrup , né en Sierra Leone (chant, claviers) , Baba Kenneth Okolulo (basse, chant) et Danjuma "Jimi Lee" Adamu (guitares, chant) , Candido Obajimi et le leader de Monomono (qui signifie «aube de la conscience» en yoruba) , Friday Jumbo, était à l'origine un congeuro pour Fela . Ils ont produit une poignée de singles et deux LP complets . Soundway Records a réédité les deux premiers disques de Monomono en 2011 : " Give The Beggar A Chance "sur le label His Master's Voice EMI Records en 1972 et " The Dawn Of Awareness " sur le label Capitol Records en 1974 . Le son de Monomono est devenu populaire parmi les jeunes de la classe moyenne du Nigeria . Le groupe s'est séparé en 1975 ou 1976 .
